Sesco Cement Terminal

Port of Houston

Project Scope

Completed In

2020

Capacity

200,000 ton

Project Overview

The SESCO Cement Terminal is the largest privately owned cement distribution facility in the world. Spanning 13 acres within the Port of Houston, the project was delivered through CIVE®’s integrated design, construction, and procurement model. This industrial and marine development strengthens Houston’s role as a key hub for cement storage and distribution on a global scale.
Design and Scope

Design and Scope

The project required significant marine and structural work, beginning with reinforcement of the existing Wharf 3. A gantry rail system and jetty system were installed to support efficient vessel operations. Six massive cement storage domes were constructed alongside two 15,000 square foot packing warehouses, supported by transfer towers, bucket elevators, conveyor systems, and multiple service buildings. Each component was engineered for long-term durability and seamless operation under high-capacity demands.

Engineering and Delivery

Delivering a facility of this scale required precise coordination between industrial, marine, and structural disciplines. CIVE®’s procurement arm played a critical role in sourcing specialized equipment, while the design-build approach allowed for real-time alignment of engineering and construction. By integrating structural design with advanced logistics planning, the team was able to complete highly complex installations, from electrical service buildings to blower and compressor facilities, all built to meet heavy industrial standards.

Strategic Outcomes

The SESCO Cement Terminal elevates Houston’s infrastructure capacity while providing the client with an asset designed for resilience and efficiency. The project showcases CIVE®’s ability to execute large-scale industrial developments that involve both marine and land-based systems. The result is a fully operational cement terminal that delivers measurable value in storage, packing, and distribution, positioning the facility as a benchmark within the global cement industry.

Notable Wins

  • Delivered the world’s largest privately owned cement terminal on 13 acres.
  • Reinforced Wharf 3 to support marine operations at the Port of Houston.
  • Installed six cement storage domes and two 15,000 sq. ft. warehouses.
  • Integrated gantry rail, jetty, transfer towers, conveyors, and service buildings.

Built to perform at scale, the SESCO Cement Terminal stands as a long-term asset for global distribution and a clear example of CIVE®’s industrial depth.
